Sri Lankan police have arrested over 200 suspects in reference to the bombings.
According to the English language every day ‘The Island’, a probe panel has been instructed that Pulasthini Rajendran alias Sarah, the spouse of Achchi Mohammdu Mohammadu Hasthun, the suicide bomber who blew himself up at St. Sebastian’s Church within the western coastal city of Negombo, more than likely had fled to India by the ocean in September 2019.
Chief Inspector Arjuna Maheenkanda instructed the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) that the one who assisted her to flee had been arrested, the report stated.
The police officer stated that in October 2019, he was assigned to research the assaults carried out by the NTJ.
Maheenkanda instructed the PCoI that on July 6, 2020, he acquired a tip-off from an informant that Sarah, who was within the NTJ hideout within the rapid aftermath of the assaults, had escaped and was hiding in Mankadu within the jap city of Batticaloa, the report stated on Tuesday.
“When we had been in Batticaloa, we met one other one who had seen a girl, whom he believed was Sarah. This informant stated he had seen a cab parked alongside Batticaloa-Kalmunai principal highway, close to Beach Road, Mankadu space round three AM in September 2019.
“He felt suspicious and slowed down. Then he saw Sarah and two other men walking towards the main road. There was a street light there and that’s how the informant saw them. This informant had lived near Sarah’s house for a long time. He also saw that she got into the back seat of the cab parked near the road,” the report quoted Maheenkenda as having instructed the PCoI.
The officer stated that there was data that Sarah had fled to India by boat from the Mannar space. Two individuals, Sarah’s brother and husband of her aunt, had helped her escape, the report stated.
“One of the suspects is currently in custody. The other person has gone abroad. Investigations have also revealed that a person in the Mannar area helped her flee,” the officer stated.
The blasts focused St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church within the western coastal city of Negombo, and a church within the jap city of Batticaloa when the Easter Sunday mass was in progress.
Three explosions had been reported from three five-star motels – the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand, and the Kingsbury in Colombo.
