High Court stays 4-year jail time period of Jaya Jaitley in defence corruption case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court Thursday stayed the 4-year jail time period awarded to ex-Samata Party president Jaya Jaitley in a corruption case associated to a purported defence deal, her lawyer mentioned. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait additionally sought the CBI response on Jaitley’s attraction difficult her conviction and sentence, advocate Abhijat mentioned.

Jaitley, represented by means of senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and P P Malhotra, challenged the July 21 order of the trial courtroom convicting her within the case.

Jaitley and two others have been held responsible of corruption in a 2000-01 case associated to a purported defence deal, the lawyer mentioned.

They have been sentenced to 4-year imprisonment on Thursday by the trial courtroom which has directed them to give up by 5 pm.

The different convicts within the case are Jaitley’s former celebration colleague Gopal Pacherwal and Major General (rtd) S.P. Murgai.
